Adverse Effects of Smoking

To start with, foul breath is one universal after effect of smoking. Teeth gradually turns pale and due to tartar formation, lose its colour to a pale yellow that looks very unattractive. Swelling up and inflammation of gums besides the loss of bone weight in the mouth cavity can turn into a severe problem that should be nipped in the bud. Commonly known as leukoplakia or whitish formations in the mouth, it can lead to bad odour that proves unpleasant on all occasions. Smoking hinders fast recovery of oral operations such as tooth extractions and gum surgeries. Cigars, cigarettes and smoking pipes hence result in increased rates of gum disorders and oral cancerous tissue formations in the humans. The primary harm is done to the gums and teeth at the point of attachment of the two by the process of loosening of gum tissues, which makes a person prone to tooth loss. The flow of adequate blood to the infected tissues is impaired and therefore the gums are made even more susceptible to oral infections and cavities and periodontal damages. Germs and plaque formations increase at an alarming pace and often cause irreparable damage to the sensitive gums and teeth.

How to Quit

Determination is the key. It is advisable to quit as soon as one can. Cutting down the intake and gradually reducing dependency on cigarettes is a sure way to get going. In addition, there are added benefits of a pleasant personality with good teeth and more company.
